Don’t Extradite Assange 2020 Global Protest

Advocacy for Humankind, along with Bay Action Committee to Free Assange, joined the Worldwide Call to Action for a February 24, 2020 Global Protest. We gathered outside the British Consulate General in the Financial District of San Francisco, to voice our outrage at the unfair treatment of Julian Assange and concern for the censorship of free speech.

We had an amazing crowd of devoted supporters and passionate speakers, including our very own Constance Rose! The protest concluded in the lobby of the high-rise building where the British Consulate General is located.

As always, we did not miss the opportunity to educate and bring awareness to the crimes of coordinated stalking and harassment.

February 24, 2020 marked the first day of the UK extradition hearing of Julian Assange. The founder of WikiLeaks has been charged with violating the Espionage Act of 1917 because he obtained and published classified documents which exposed U.S. War crimes in Afghanistan, Iran and more.

Recently, US Government officials announced that the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution does not apply to foreign journalists. Following Assanges’s Case Management hearing on January 23, 2020, WikiLeaks editor Kristinn Hrafnsson said, “That should send a very clear message to all journalists about the importance of this case. And about the true nature of this case, the political nature of it. It’s an attack on press freedom. If anybody was ever in any doubt about that this should erase all doubt.”

Julian Assange‘s extradition hearing in the Woolwich Crown Court has adjourned and will resume on May 18, 2020.
